EarSafely — Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 6, 2026

App: EarSafely (com.earsafely.app)

Developer: Amit Sharma

Country: India

This Privacy Policy explains what information EarSafely collects, how it is used, and how it is stored. By installing or using EarSafely, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Overview

EarSafely is a hearing-safety application that monitors device listening levels and provides safety alerts and exposure insights.

Key points:

  • No account or signup is required to use the app.
  • The app does not display advertisements.
  • Most data is stored locally on the user's device.
  • Limited anonymous usage analytics may be collected using Firebase Analytics.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Microphone Usage (Manual Environment Check Only)

EarSafely may access the device microphone only when the user manually activates the "Check Environment" feature.

When this feature is active:

  • The app measures ambient sound levels (decibels) in real time.
  • If the environment is detected to be quiet (for example below a defined threshold such as approximately 50 dB), the app may enable Quiet Mode, which temporarily adjusts certain safety settings (such as lowering the user's configured listening thresholds).

Important clarifications:

  • The microphone runs only while the user keeps the environment check active.
  • The microphone does not run automatically in the background.
  • The microphone is not used for notifications, monitoring, or analytics.
  • EarSafely does not record, store, or transmit raw microphone audio.

Ambient sound measurements are processed live in memory and immediately discarded after being displayed. Microphone data is not stored in databases, logs, analytics systems, or transmitted to external services.

2.2 Listening Exposure Data

EarSafely may store local listening exposure data to help users understand their listening habits. Stored information may include:

  • timestamp
  • device listening volume level
  • generated device/profile identifier

This data does not include microphone-derived ambient sound measurements.

Exposure data is stored locally in the application database on the device.

2.3 Device and Profile Identifiers

EarSafely may generate identifiers to associate headphone profiles with connected audio devices. These identifiers:

  • are generated locally by the application
  • are not based on Bluetooth MAC addresses
  • are used only to apply the correct safety profile for connected audio devices.

2.4 App Settings and Preferences

The application stores user settings locally, including headphone profiles, safety thresholds, configuration preferences, and feature settings. These preferences are stored using standard on-device storage mechanisms.

2.5 Analytics Data

EarSafely uses Firebase Analytics, a service provided by Google. Firebase Analytics may collect limited anonymized usage information such as feature usage, app navigation events, session activity, and interaction metrics.

The application does not send microphone measurements, sound levels, or hearing exposure data to analytics services.

3. Permissions Used

EarSafely may request the following Android permissions depending on enabled features:

  • RECORD_AUDIO— used only when the user manually runs the environment check feature
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS— used to deliver safety alerts
  • BLUETOOTH_CONNECT/SCAN— used to detect connected audio devices
  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE— required for background monitoring of device listening levels
  • INTERNET— required for Firebase Analytics

Android will request permission approval before these features are used.

4. How Data Is Stored

Most information collected by EarSafely is stored locally on the device, including exposure logs, headphone profiles, and configuration settings.

Local data remains stored until the user deletes the app or clears the app's storage.

Some anonymized analytics data may be transmitted to Firebase Analytics.

5. Data Sharing

EarSafely does not sell or share personal user data.

Limited information may be shared with service providers strictly for operational purposes:

  • Firebase Analytics (Google) for app usage analytics
  • Google Fonts CDN for runtime font downloads

No custom backend servers currently collect user data.

6. Advertising

EarSafely currently does not display advertisements.

The application also does not use advertising identifiers for ad targeting.

7. User Controls

Delete local data

All stored data can be removed by clearing the app's storage in Android settings or uninstalling the application.

Permission control

Users may revoke microphone, Bluetooth, or notification permissions through Android system settings. Revoking required permissions may limit certain app features.

8. Children's Privacy

EarSafely is intended for users of all ages.

The app does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. If a parent or guardian believes that a child has provided personal information through the app, they may contact us to request deletion.

9. Security

Reasonable safeguards are implemented to protect stored data. Information stored locally uses standard mobile storage systems such as SQLite databases and SharedPreferences.

While reasonable security practices are used, no system can guarantee complete security.

10. Medical Disclaimer

Warning:

EarSafely provides informational sound exposure monitoring tools. The application is not a medical device and is not intended to replace professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

11. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in features or legal requirements. The effective date at the top of this document indicates the most recent revision.
